IT Project Manager in the Molecular Sciences Computational Facility

  • Project manager and team lead for MSC and NSD strategic projects. These projects include selecting and implementing Configuration Management, life-cycle replacing servers.
  • Managed the MSC network, which consists of Cisco, Foundry, HP ProCurve switches and routers. Used OSPF, and IPFilters. There are over 200 managed routers.
  • Managed the MSC Ancillary servers, implementing standardized installation, configuration, and management of these systems.
  • Successfully managed critical projects for the MSC, and other divisions.

IT Project Lead in the IT Services Division
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
2004 to 2006

  • Project manager and team lead for Remote Web Access and Web Single Sign on.
  • Led the Remote Web Access team which managed the Application firewall, forward
    proxy, reverse proxy, and authentication / authorization services.
  • Implemented High Availability for SiteMinder Policy Servers, Policy Stores, and authentication servers, dramatically improving user satisfaction with the Web Single Sign On service.
  • Implemented the NetContinuum web application firewall, and redundancy. This increased web server availability, reliability, and security. Protecting web servers from malicious attacks, SQL Injection attacks, and scripted attacks.
  • Worked with SCINet wireless and security teams at SuperComputing 2004. Detected rogue access points, and tracked down compromised computer systems.

Senior Research Scientist in the Molecular Sciences Computational Facility

  • Successfully achieved the DOE Certification and Accreditation on the MSCF systems (per DOE Notice 205.9) following the NIST guidelines.
  • Managed the MSCF network, which consist of Cisco Catalyst 6509, Foundry 9315, Extreme BlackDiamond, and HP ProCurve switches and routers. Used OSPF, and IPFilters.
  • Implemented automated network scanning system to monitor for unauthorized network devices and services in the MSCF networks.
  • Led MSCF infrastructure project. Oversaw team that managed networking, security, monitoring, and asset management of the MSCF systems (~2000 computers).
  • Implemented security in depth by using network firewalls, router filters, and by
    hardening hosts with local firewalls, tcpwrappers, and filesystem monitors.
  • Wrote, maintained and implemented the security policy on all the MSCF clusters (IBM AIX SP’s and Linux Clusters) and general-purpose servers.
  • U.S. DOE Information Security Contact, and participated on two Incident Response Teams.
  • Implemented one-time-passwords to further secure systems from replay password attacks.
  • Worked with SCINet wireless and security teams at SuperComputing 2003. Detected rogue access points, and tracked down compromised computer systems.

  • Maintained the IBM Midrange Systems networks. Used RIP, and NIS.
  • Wrote, maintained, and implemented the "lock down" procedure for IBM AIX Midrange Systems.
  • Migrated database applications and users from an Amdahl UTS system to an IBM SP and an Oracle database.
  • Designed, implemented, and maintained High Availability for the IBM SP including Oracle-HA, RVSD’s, and HACMP.
  • Improved system availability from several weeks of downtime a year to four hours of unscheduled downtime a year.

Scripting Technologist

  • Transferred paper telemarketing scripts into automated MUMPS Database on-screen scripts.
  • Maintained programs that automatically transferred sales data real-time into customer’s remote datacenter MVS application.
